Running for research and awareness

June 5, 2017

Hi, my name is Gemma and I am an Endo Warrior. I was diagnosed with endometriosis not long after my 18th birthday after suffering with severe cramping, bleeding and fatigue since I was 12. It has been tough going through something I have never heard of before. To me it was this big word starting with E that I was never going to be able to pronounce and made me hate to be a woman. I'm one of the lucky ones though. I am able to still work and make an income. I am still able to perform day to day tasks. I have only had 2 surgeries to remove it. But, mine is aggressive.

My most recent surgery I had endometriosis removed from my Fallopian tubes, ovaries, bowel, bladder, uterus and it had also made a pouch in my left groin and grown its own little mass. I am lucky to have a very supportive husband by my side who cuddles me when it's that time of the month. Who goes down to the shop to buy more pads because I've run out. Who has held me in the shower after another miscarriage. He is my rock and my saviour.

This year I am participating in the Perth Color Run and raising money for Endometriosis Australia! My aim is to not only raise money for research but also bring awareness as to what is Endometriosis and how common this disease actually is.
